Canada Post to Abandon Primary Purpose after losing over 800 million last year

Canada Post's main mission is to provide mail services to rural and remote areas, this is why they have a legislated monopoly on mail delivery. However, after losing 840 million dollars while still managing to suck Canada Post has decided to abandon it's one essential service, reaching remote areas. The crown corporation will instead be focusing more of its efforts on major centers where there are already potential competitors.
Much like CBC, Canada Post receives gobs of money to compete with private enterprise with the argument being that it is an essential public service, something that may in fact have been true at one point in time. Unfortunately both CBC and Canada Post are horse and buggy operations that are being subsidized by the Canadian Government in a world that has already moved on to self driving cars and e-mail.

"Canada Post exists as a Crown Corporation to provide affordable, universal mail and parcel delivery services, ensuring all Canadians, including those in rural and remote areas, have access to essential goods and communication. Established by the Canada Post Corporation Act, its mandate requires it to be financially self-sustaining through its own revenues, not taxpayer dollars. Canada Post also functions as a vital service, connecting communities, supporting small businesses, and delivering critical items to less accessible regions where private carriers often do not operate. "

So what should the solution be? Return to first principles, why does this Crown Corporation exist? What value does it provide that a private company cannot do? The ONLY answer to that question that I can think of is remote or rural mail delivery, the only service they are looking to scale back.

Canada Post sucks
