Alberta Politics

Conservative views on Alberta politics, and the odd uneducated post about the US.

Alberta PC Party I used to know
I'm not going to say too much about this video, I think it speaks for itself. Amanda has put words to a song, but also a movement in Alberta. There is growing resistance in this province to what is perceived as a moving back to the days of deficit spending. Her Twitter account was unjustly banned, but Danielle Smith and the Wildrose friends quickly came to her defense. Wildrose will no doubt be the beneficiaries of the publicity the video has received, it was covered by Sun News Network, CBC News, and the Calgary Herald. read more…

Ralph Klein was the first politician that got me remotely interested in Alberta politics . He was the first political leader I ever witnessed on TV talk like a normal human being with convictions. The reason I paid attention at all was the many liberal teachers I had telling us how terribly cruel he was. read more…

Progressive Party of Alberta
The Progressive Spenders party is a new unofficial political party in Alberta Think Bigger. Bigger Deficts: Deficits have a bad reputation, we seek to restore Alberta's short fall to a more respectable level on par with the rest of the bleeding world. read more…

Perhaps the United States will prove to be like the prodigal son, rolling once again in the mire of socialism and nanny statism until it's great grandchildren's inheritance is spent. Then maybe, just maybe it will return to the principles and beliefs that gave it wealth in the first place. As wrong as the pundits were about the election I do believe there is a correct consensus that the can has been kicked as far as this road goes (the next one leads to serfdom). In a way it is better that the self acknowledged entitlement party is standing up when the music stops. read more…

I am a Wildrose member, supporter, and small government libertarian minded person. To be honest with you I am a bit concerned with the party’s discipline in terms of responding to people that try and engage the party. It is great that you are trying to use e-mail, websites, and twitter but after 3-4 attempts to ask questions and engage you I have yet to be acknowledged let alone answered. read more…

It is hard to argue that libertarianism making a come back in the US, big government advocates argue that it was free markets and deregulation that led to economic calamity but no matter how you splice it there was government involved all along. The social 'safety net' has become a much larger expense in both the US and Canada, but few are thrilled about what the systems offer. The bulk of Canadian electorate seems to be satisfied with the general state of things when compared to the rest of the world, but one could argue that less Canadians are in the, "well it can't happen to us", camp. read more…

Wildrose led by Danielle Smith is a relatively new creation in Alberta, Canada. Listening to some of Danielle's speeches it is quite encouraging to hear some of the not-so-old-fashioned ideas of reduced government bureaucracy that made Alberta a debt free (surplus) province. So far the Wildrose does not go overly negative on the PC party, but rather make pointed remarks to distinguish the differences in a fair way. But it will take more than a few PCs walking the floor and media coverage to overthrow the large centralized government ideas that have crept into the PC party. read more…

I read somewhere that B.C.'s Provincial debt is projected 35.8 billion dollars currently. Knowing that it is a more progressive province, I wondered a few years ago how things would pan out compared to the Ralph Klein government fiscal conservative approach. Now, they claim to have 'invested' that money into healthcare, education and "infrastructure" but most of what I hear is that there are no jobs, too many houses, and no real indication that their health or education system is any more solvent than the rest of Canada. read more…

Ralph Klein Dead at 70
Former Premier Ralph Klein is not a politician you hear of very often these days, it seems that conservatives are shy to talk about his years in office and liberals are happy to forget him. But I honestly think there is a glaring omission from the record of history that may have been missed. read more…

During a nearly 6 year stint for Alberta Health Services and a previous health entity there came an opportunity around June 2010 to name a 2030 news story headline. I submitted "Sustainable Healthcare Made in Alberta" perhaps foolishly thinking that this fit the goals of the organization and Alberta. Well not only did it not win out of the roughly 165 submissions but it didn't make the top 10 or for that matter even get an acknowledgement from those organizing the contest. read more…
